This term our topic is “Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds” This topic will cover a range of thoughtful activities. We will explore the link between physical and mental health. In addition, we will think about how we can contribute to our local community, in particular, how we can promote a healthy balanced lifestyle.
In Science we will be exploring the connections between healthy lifestyles and participation in sport. We will look at how the heart, lungs and brain work in order to support us when we are exercising.
Our whole class reading book is The Secret Garden. This fictional novel was written by American author Frances Hodgson Burnett and published in 1911 . This novel focuses on key themes of self-healing, friendship and discovery! It is considered a classic of children’s literature and is considered to be among Burnett’s best work. The novel centres on Mary Lennox, who becomes orphaned. After a brief stay with the family of an English clergyman, she is sent to England to live with a widowed uncle, Archibald Craven, at his huge Yorkshire estate, Misselthwaite Manor.
Outdoor learning every Tuesday
Every week we will be taking some of our lessons outside of the classroom, to embrace our superb outdoor facilities. This will take place every Tuesday afternoon. Please provide your children with suitable footwear (wellies) and waterproofs to enable us to go out in all weathers. As mentioned in the “back to school letter”, please remind your child to bring in wellies and a coat on all other days too.
PE every Wednesday
As we are in the summer term, we will be looking at Tennis and Athletics.
In tennis, we will be thinking about positioning of the racquet and ball control. In athletics, we will be thinking about different Olymic events! Such as hurdles, sprinting and long distance running.
